HPCL, BPCL and IOC swing to June-quarter losses as Brent spikes to $125 a barrel
India’s three state-run oil marketing companies—HPCL, BPCL and IOC—reported losses for the June quarter as Brent crude surged to as high as $125 per barrel after the US-Iran conflict. HPCL posted the steepest loss at ₹11,526 crore, while BPCL and IOC reported losses of ₹3,962 crore and ₹2,661 crore, respectively. Strong refining margins helped cushion the hit from higher crude costs, with BPCL reporting a gross refining margin of $41.4 per barrel. Marketing profitability stayed under pressure, and LPG under-recoveries widened sharply during the quarter.

Bloom Energy shares fall 3.45% after upbeat Q2 results as report raises efficiency concerns
Bloom Energy posted better-than-expected 2024 second-quarter results, with revenue and adjusted EPS both well ahead of consensus estimates, and it raised its full-year 2026 revenue and EPS guidance. A separate independent assessment report in New York said 37 deployed metered systems commonly failed to meet efficiency targets, with a median time of 20 months before dropping below a benchmark and Bloom’s 95% rated output target missed almost universally across evaluated regions. The operational concerns prompted a reassessment of the company’s ability to deliver on its technology claims, pressuring the stock on the day.

India proposes 2026 tax bill to ease offshore funds’ exemption rules on global income
India’s government has proposed the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, to sharply simplify the compliance conditions offshore funds must meet to qualify for tax exemption on their global income. The plan removes requirements tied to investor count, single-investor concentration, investment caps in one entity, related-party investment limits and a minimum average monthly corpus. The measures have already drawn net inflows of $40.81 billion, and India’s foreign exchange reserves rose to $682.354 billion in the week ended July 24, up $6.118 billion. The changes are expected to support the rupee (INR) and improve liquidity in domestic equities.
