Aave plans to introduce a protection tool called "Aave Shield" that will block swaps with more than 25% price impact after a user lost over $50 million swapping USDT for AAVE through its interface last week. The loss occurred when $50.4 million in USDt was exchanged via CoW Swap but returned only about $36,500 in AAVE due to thin liquidity, infrastructure issues and a sandwich attack by an MEV bot.

On Sunday, lending platform Venus Protocol on BNB Chain suffered a price manipulation exploit involving Thena's low-liquidity THE token, leaving an estimated $2.15 million in bad debt. The attacker allegedly used a donation-based workaround to bypass the protocol's supply cap and repeatedly inflated THE's oracle price before liquidation. On-chain analysts reported that the operation was funded via Tornado Cash and may have generated little or no direct on-chain profit for the attacker.

Decentralized exchange Hyperliquid's HYPE token has rallied 23% in a week and is trading around $36–$37 after a TD Sequential buy signal on March 8 preceded a 28.23% price jump. On March 13 the same indicator flashed a sell signal, and analyst Ali Martinez warned of a possible short-term pullback to about $34 that could create a fresh entry point. Research firm DCo modeled HYPE's value across multiple market capture scenarios, estimating that capturing 0.01% to 1.00% of a $1.74 trillion daily TAM via HIP-3 could justify prices between $60 and $190 by Year 3.

On March 12, a crypto trader attempted to swap $50.4 million USDT for Aave tokens via CoW Protocol and SushiSwap but ended up receiving only about $36,000 worth of AAVE. A MEV bot executed a sandwich attack using a $29 million flash loan and realized roughly $9.9 million in profit, while Aave and CoW DAO said the user had manually accepted warnings about extreme slippage. Both protocols pledged to refund collected fees but stressed that DeFi user experience and safeguards still need improvement.

Multiple blockchains are rolling out or incubating perpetual futures DEXs to pull in leveraged trading activity and deepen onchain liquidity. Executives from BNB Chain, Aptos, BitMEX and Deribit note that while derivatives dominate crypto volumes, liquidity historically concentrates on a few leading venues. This raises the question of whether the current wave of chain-specific perp DEXs will fragment markets or eventually reconsolidate around a small number of dominant platforms.

On 9 March 2026, CoinGecko data showed Binance leading perpetual futures trading with $13.6 trillion, more than twice OKX's $5.8 trillion, while overall perps volume reached over $7.24 trillion per month. Hyperliquid, an on-chain exchange, entered the global top 10 with $1.5 trillion in volume and helped lift DEX market share in perps to about 10.2%, supported by high open interest ratios and faster execution. Centralized venues still benefit from deeper liquidity and fiat access, but growth in DeFi, real-world asset perps, institutional activity, and AI-driven trading is reshaping the derivatives landscape.

Curve Finance has alleged that PancakeSwap's Infinity DEX integrated its StableSwap-style code without following the required licensing process and urged the exchange to seek formal collaboration. The dispute, which also raises broader cybersecurity and legal concerns in DeFi, comes after PancakeSwap Infinity launched in April 2025 on Arbitrum and BNB Chain and later expanded to Base with lower fees and new liquidity tools.

XRP Ledger developer Panos Mekras has highlighted a new RLUSD liquidity pool incentive on the XRP/RLUSD pair, offering a 12.8% APR and drawing around $500,000 in XRP liquidity in less than 24 hours. He noted that a similar proposal his team made in 2025 was not supported by Ripple, and urged the company to use the one billion XRP reserved for community initiatives to back DeFi builders. Despite this progress, XRP Ledger still trails leading DeFi ecosystems in total value locked, fee generation and active addresses.

On 2 March 2026, Pi Network entered a pivotal stage, enforcing a mandatory node upgrade toward Protocol v23 while preparing to launch its decentralized exchange on 12 March 2026. The project reports over 16.2 million mainnet migrations, 17.7 million KYC-verified users, more than 421,000 active nodes and 300+ mainnet apps, with circulating supply at roughly 9.3–9.4 billion PI out of 100 billion. PI changes hands around $0.16–$0.19, down over 90% from its $2.10 peak in February 2025, and analysts are divided on whether upcoming upgrades and the DEX can offset dilution risks from unreleased tokens.

On February 26, decentralized exchange Lighter reported that its updated LLP strategy system limited losses for liquidity providers to a preset $75,000 cap during a $50 million ARC perpetual long squeeze. The whale trader lost about $8.2 million, while roughly 600 counterparties profited as ARC's price slumped and then flash-crashed before partially recovering. ARC has since recorded steep multi-timeframe declines, with its market slide sparking fresh discussion over potential price manipulation and market integrity.
