U.S., Iran to Sign Agreement Online; Strait of Hormuz to Reopen Immediately
ME News reported on June 14 (UTC+8), citing CCTV News, that U.S. President Donald Trump said on June 13 (local time) the United States and Iran plan to sign an agreement on June 14, with the Strait of Hormuz set to reopen immediately after the deal is inked.
Separately, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on June 13 that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke by phone the same day with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
According to the report, the U.S.-Iran agreement will be signed electronically on June 14. Iranian officials have said the precise timing of the memorandum remains to be confirmed.
People familiar with the matter said U.S. officials and multiple mediators have agreed the signing will take place online for logistical and scheduling reasons. A key factor is a conflict in the schedule of Vice President JD Vance, who leads the U.S. negotiation team. While Vance oversees the talks, attending an in-person ceremony would prevent him from returning to the United States before Trump departs for France on June 14 to attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit. To align the U.S. leadership's travel plans, the parties opted for an online signing. (Source: ODAILY)
