Ravencoin Flags Exploited Consensus Bug; Possible 3-Day Chain Reorg Sends RVN Down More Than 20%

AI Market Summary
Ravencoin disclosed an exploited consensus-layer vulnerability that allowed invalid blocks to be accepted since Aug 7, raising the likelihood of a deep ~3-day chain reorganization if dominant mining pools shift hashpower to an alternative fork. Transactions after block 4,487,775 are at risk of reversal, elevating exchange settlement and withdrawal-cancellation risk. The uncertainty over the eventual canonical chain has driven a sharp RVN selloff and undermines near-term network reliability.

Ravencoin has disclosed an exploited consensus-layer vulnerability that has allowed some nodes to accept invalid blocks since Aug. 7, raising the prospect of a deep chain reorganization that could roll back recent transactions. According to CoinDesk, the first confirmed invalid block was recorded at height 4,487,776 on Aug. 7, 2026, at 15:44:01 UTC. The project said affected nodes are validating blocks that should not have been confirmed. Ravencoin runs a Bitcoin-style proof-of-work system, where the chain backed by the most hashpower is treated as the network's main chain. As a result, the final outcome hinges on where miners and mining pools direct computing power. Ravencoin's notice said two major mining pools, 2Miners and RavenMiner, currently control most of the network's hashing power and plan to mine a chain that excludes the exploited branch beginning at block 4,487,776. If additional miners follow, that alternative chain could overtake the current branch and become the new main chain. If that happens, the network could undergo a deep reorg of roughly three days, potentially erasing some transactions confirmed in the days following Aug. 7. Ravencoin highlighted the following reference points: - Last block considered valid: 4,487,775 - Potential reorganization starting block: 4,487,776 - Potential rollback time span: about three days The team warned exchanges and users that transactions confirmed after block 4,487,775 should be treated as at risk. Some affected transactions may return to the mempool and later be included again, but there is no guarantee. Ravencoin also cautioned exchanges not to assume reversed deposits or withdrawals will automatically reappear or be reconfirmed, meaning transfers, payments, deposits, and withdrawals since Aug. 7 could be invalidated if the main chain switches. Developers said they asked mining pools to consider more recent recovery points to reduce disruption for users, service providers, and exchanges, but the request was not accepted. RVN sold off sharply after the disclosure. Market data cited in the report showed RVN/USDT falling as much as 20.40% on the day, breaking below a range that had held since mid-June. RVN's market capitalization is about $46 million, with tens of millions of dollars wiped out in recent hours. From an approximate late-May high near $0.0055, RVN is down nearly 50%.
