Polymarket US Debuts Five-Minute Crypto Prediction Contracts for BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP
Polymarket has officially launched five-minute crypto price prediction contracts on the Polymarket US App, covering Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL) and XRP. The contracts operate as a binary options market: users forecast whether the price will rise or fall, and a correct call pays $1 per contract. Settlement uses Chainlink 60-second Time-Weighted Average Price (TWAP). By averaging the asset price over the final 60 seconds, the platform aims to block last-second manipulation and cheating. Ties, where the predicted price matches the initial price, resolve automatically in the up position. Polymarket first entered the US in 2020 but was forced to shut down there after a $1.4 million fine for offering unregistered derivatives. In July 2025, it acquired QCX LLC in a $112 million deal aimed at reentering the US market. The derivatives exchange brought an existing Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) license, allowing Polymarket to replace the unregulated connection of Web3 digital wallets. Earlier this month, Polymarket US introduced 15-minute, hourly and daily contracts. The five-minute debut today is its latest ultra-short product. Polymarket dominates the global events market. Kalshi leads US consumer volume, helped by a legal launch in 2020 that gave it a five-year head start. Kalshi has also pursued deep institutional liquidity through partnerships with Robinhood, Coinbase and Webull. Its contracts span sports, economic indicators and weather. Polymarket contracts focus mainly on crypto and pop culture. Its operations remain standalone, with users accessing the beta app by invitation only. Both platforms are federally regulated under the CFTC. State-level restrictions remain a barrier. Nevada and Minnesota have blocked all prediction market platforms. Washington and Michigan have banned sports-related contract trading. New York, Texas and California are actively contesting prediction market operations.
