Democratic Senators Seek Hearing on UAE's $500 Million Stake in Trump-Linked Crypto Venture

Five Democratic U.S. senators have urged several Republican committee chairs to hold an immediate hearing into the United Arab Emirates' reported $500 million investment in World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a cryptocurrency venture tied to President Donald Trump, according to FinanceFeeds. The outlet reported that an aide to Abu Dhabi's royal family quietly signed an agreement four days before Trump's January 2025 inauguration to buy a 49% stake in WLFI for $500 million. It added that foreign buyers had already prepaid $218 million to entities linked to Trump and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff. The senators said Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's National Security Advisor, was the primary investor, calling it an unprecedented case in U.S. political history of a foreign government official taking a major equity position in a company owned by a presidentelect. They also pointed to U.S. approvals since Trump's inauguration for $1.4 billion in weapons sales and more than $1 billion in advanced AI chip sales to the UAE. The lawmakers said they were deeply concerned and demanded sworn testimony from relevant officials on what they knew about the reported payments.
