CFTC Oct 9 Proposal Would Classify Event Contracts as Swaps, Exclude Sportsbook Wagers

The CFTC on Oct 9 proposed including sports and event contracts in the swap definition while issuing an interim final rule to exclude sportsbook and casino wagers. Chairman Michael S. Selig said these fall under the agency's exclusive jurisdiction. Comments due within 30 days of Federal Register publication. The casino wager exclusion takes effect upon publication. State law disputes remain.
