The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed a crypto-asset framework that would set compliance-based fundraising routes for token projects. Under the proposal, issuers could raise up to $5 million over a single period lasting as long as four years, or use a larger exemption with Tier 1 capped at $20 million without an audit and Tier 2 capped at $75 million with an independent audit. Nonaccredited investors would be limited to investing 10% of annual income or net worth, while accredited investors would not face a rule-specific cap. The framework is designed to cover the full lifecycle from token issuance through a filing process that can end the token’s securities-related investment contract.

Bitcoin has moved close to the $80,000 level, but a key driver of the rise—buying linked to spot Bitcoin ETFs—has faded during weekend trading. With traditional financial markets closed over the weekend, institutional inflows via ETFs are interrupted, leaving the market without a major source of support in the near term. The shift highlights how dependent the current Bitcoin rally is on traditional finance channels, while thinner weekend liquidity could create resistance just below the psychological threshold.

Cryptocurrencies saw a flash crash over the span of one hour. Bitcoin fell 2.5%, ether dropped 5%, Solana slid 11.5%, and XRP plunged 37%. Total derivatives liquidations across the market reached $525 million during the same period. Market analysis said the immediate trigger was an excessive buildup of leverage beforehand.

HDFC Mutual Fund said it will resume subscriptions in the HDFC Gold ETF Fund of Fund from August 14, allowing lumpsum purchases and switch-ins without restrictions. Axis Mutual Fund said it will withdraw temporary limits on its gold ETF and gold fund, and will accept large-investor subscriptions above Rs 25 crores in Axis Gold ETF from August 18, 2026. Axis also said unrestricted lumpsum subscriptions and switch-ins in Axis Gold Fund will be accepted from August 18, 2026. Tata Mutual Fund and Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund have also moved to resume subscriptions in their gold-linked schemes.

The crypto market saw a sudden wave of long-position liquidations totaling more than $500,000,000. Major assets fell at the same time, with Bitcoin down $1,900 (2.4%) and Ether down $130 (5%). XRP slid $0.28 (16.45%), while SOL fell $11.00 (11%). The selloff unfolded within minutes, sparking widespread concern about a potential extreme event.

XRP Ledger (XRPL) has overtaken Stellar to become the 12th-largest stablecoin network by supply, according to DefiLlama data. XRPL’s stablecoin supply rose 13% over the past week. Over the same period, Stellar’s stablecoin supply contracted 6.5%.

International gold prices have jumped more than 16% in August, while MCX Gold Futures are up nearly 14%, supported by a weaker U.S. dollar, rising safe-haven demand and seasonal buying. The company reported no dissenting or invalid votes. Separately, it said net profit in Q1 FY27 rose by nearly 60% year-on-year.
