Sensex slides more than 1,300 points from intraday high as Nifty dips below 23,200, erasing about Rs 9 lakh crore
Indian equities fell sharply, with the Sensex down more than 1,300 points from its intraday high and the Nifty slipping below 23,200, wiping out about Rs 9 trillion in market value. The selloff was driven by the US 10-year Treasury yield crossing 5% for the first time since 2023 and a rise in oil prices that renewed inflation worries. Expectations of further Federal Reserve rate hikes, alongside escalating Middle East geopolitical tensions, added to the broad-based risk-off move.
