SEC Proposes Custody Framework for Investment Firms Holding Clients’ Crypto Assets

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The SEC's proposed custody framework for digital assets would clarify who can act as a crypto custodian and tighten recordkeeping/audit standards, reducing regulatory ambiguity for advisers and investment firms. If adopted, the rules could lower compliance friction for institutional crypto exposure and onshore market infrastructure. Near-term, the 60-day comment period adds headline sensitivity, but the direction signals more formalized U.S. regulatory integration.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed new rules to set a framework for how investment companies and advisers hold and manage clients’ cryptocurrency. The proposal follows the Senate’s failure to advance the Clarity Act last month, leaving a regulatory gap. The public will have 60 days to comment before the SEC decides whether to finalize the rule. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said the proposal is a step toward making the U.S. the “crypto capital of the world.”
