U.S. Treasury launches "Operation Economic Outcast" targeting Iran's illicit finance networks

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The US Treasury's "Operation Economic Outcast" signals an escalation in Iran-related enforcement, explicitly targeting gold and digital-asset channels alongside shipping and oil smuggling. The threat of dollar-system cutoff and secondary sanctions raises compliance risk for cross-border intermediaries and can tighten liquidity in sanctioned supply chains. Near term, this supports haven demand and increases volatility in commodities and crypto rails exposed to illicit-finance scrutiny.

The U.S. Treasury has rolled out "Operation Economic Outcast" against Iran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent describing the effort as an "economic DDay" aimed at dismantling illicit financing channels. The campaign targets activity spanning digital assets, gold, shipping, aviation, technology and oil-smuggling routes. Bessent said any entity that facilitates money laundering on Iran's behalf will be cut off from the U.S. dollar system. He also warned that countries helping Iran evade restrictions will face direct U.S. secondary sanctions. Officials said the initiative follows a "ZeroLeakage" approach designed to intensify global isolation and sever revenue streams to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Bessent added: "The clock just started ticking."
