Solana Edges Close to Finality Halt After Teraswitch Routing Outage Takes 28.83% of Stake Offline

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
A Teraswitch routing failure took ~28.83% of staked SOL offline, pushing Solana within 4.51 percentage points of a finality-halt threshold and exposing infrastructure and stake-concentration risks. Roughly 90 validators across Europe and Asia were impacted, with over 133M SOL temporarily offline and ~333 SOL in lost rewards (bond-covered). The incident highlights dependency and failover weaknesses that can elevate operational risk premia for SOL.

Solana came within 4.51 percentage points of triggering its finality-halt threshold on Thursday after a routing incident at Teraswitch knocked 28.83% of staked SOL offline. Marinade Finance said the disruption impacted about 90 validators across Europe and Asia and briefly sidelined more than 133 million SOL. Network traffic recovered at 04:16:15 UTC. Teraswitch routing error propagated across regions Marinade reported that Teraswitch mistakenly advertised a default route from its Miami site without route attributes. A route reflector in Amsterdam then redistributed the route to locations across Europe and Asia. Edge routers treated the route as local and prioritized it over the legitimate default route. Teraswitch's core subsequently rejected the route as invalid, leaving 12 sites without a usable path. Affected locations included London, Amsterdam, Dublin, Frankfurt, Singapore and Tokyo. Marinade said North American sites did not see the same behavior. Teraswitch identified the issue within about 10 minutes; traffic returned at 04:16:15 UTC, while Miami remained disconnected from the backbone during additional checks. Over 133 million SOL temporarily offline Marinade estimated that 118.89 million SOL on AS20326, or 27.34% of total network stake, was exposed. Roughly 94% of that stake went offline during the event. A further 14.1 million SOL dropped across Latitude.sh, Limestone, Butterfly Research and Allnodes; Marinade said it could not confirm whether those outages shared a common dependency. Fiftynine validators representing 80.2 million SOL came back within the same narrow recovery window. Marinade said validators did not fail over before routing was restored. Validators lost about 333 SOL in rewards Helius, Solana's second-largest validator, stayed offline for the full 33 minutes. Among 74 validators tracked by Marinade, Laine, Cogent Crypto, SOL Strategies and Lion3d recovered cleanly. Marinade also flagged stake concentration risk: four ASNs account for about two-thirds of its allocated stake, with AS395201 alone at 36.94%. The roughly 90 impacted validators lost an estimated 333 SOL in rewards, to be covered by validator bonds at epoch end. Marinade said it will review concentration limits by ASN and data center, and plans to disclose whether validators use hotswap and automatic failover systems.
