The Block: New York jury convicts cybersecurity consultant Jonathan Spalletta in $55 million Uranium Finance crypto theft
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
A New York jury conviction tied to the 2021 Uranium Finance exploit reinforces the legal and compliance risks around post-hack laundering, highlighting prosecutors' focus on crypto mixers such as Tornado Cash. While the case is backward-looking and not a market structure change, it can marginally raise perceived enforcement intensity and compliance caution across the sector, particularly for platforms and funds with exposure to illicit-flow monitoring.

A New York jury has found cybersecurity consultant Jonathan Spalletta guilty of stealing nearly $55 million in cryptocurrency from the Uranium Finance exchange in two attacks carried out in 2021, Bloomberg reported. Spalletta faces up to 20 years in prison.
Prosecutors said he laundered the proceeds through crypto mixers, including Tornado Cash. They also alleged he later spent millions on rare Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards, an ancient Roman coin, and a piece of the Wright brothers' Flyer.
