225M XRP Backs $151.8M Maple Finance Stablecoin Loans, With Repayments From December 2026

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Maple Finance is using roughly 225M XRP as collateral for $151.8M in stablecoin loans, signaling growing institutional demand for XRP without immediate selling. Maturities in late 2026/early 2027 introduce refinancing and liquidation risk, while the concentration of XRPL DeFi value in this arrangement makes XRP sensitive to collateral and credit developments.

CoinMarketCap data shows Maple Finance has accepted about 225 million XRP, valued at roughly $281 million, as collateral for $151.8 million in stablecoin loans. Two of the three positions mature in December 2026; the third falls due in January 2027, according to Maple's syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT transparency dashboard. How borrowers handle repayment and refinancing will shape demand for XRP as collateral. As maturities approach, the market is watching how much collateral stays in the lending system. The structure lets institutions borrow dollars against XRP without immediately selling the tokens. The loans use 142.77 million XRP for syrupUSDC and 82.31 million XRP for syrupUSDT. They secure about $96.61 million in USDC and $55.19 million in USDT, for combined nominal stablecoin principal of about $151.8 million. At disclosure valuations, collateral ratios were about 179% to 189%, meaning pledged XRP is worth well above the debt. Maple disburses the loans from Ethereum-based liquidity pools, while the XRP collateral remains in native custody on the XRP Ledger. That differs from the proposed XRPL Lending Protocol, which is built around on-chain credit infrastructure and off-chain underwriting rather than automated collateral liquidation. The data point to institutional demand for XRP beyond payments. December maturities do not mean millions of XRP will be sold. Borrowers can repay and release collateral, refinance, or negotiate new borrowing terms to keep XRP pledged. Collateral can therefore stay locked for months, unlike XRP moved briefly between wallets in payments. Ripple has explored similar institutional credit models, and RippleX has said XRP collateralization could become a major institutional lending use case. Refinancing is not assured. If XRP falls far enough to breach contractual collateral requirements, borrowers may need to post more assets or cut debt. Under Maple's lending protocol, an unresolved margin call can end in liquidation, turning pledged XRP into a market sell order. There is no clear sign that these three positions face liquidation. Maple's collateral also affects XRP Ledger DeFi metrics. DefiLlama attributes about $281 million of XRP Ledger DeFi value to Maple, against about $318 million for the entire network. On that basis, the arrangement accounted for roughly 88% of the reported total, even though the financing took place on Ethereum. Other protocols are expanding similar use cases. Flare has launched XRP-backed borrowing supported by RLUSD, with more than 145 million FXRP minted on its network by end-September. Institutional projects involving Ripple and Clearpool are also building additional credit infrastructure.
