Kraken said some customers were temporarily locked out of their accounts after receiving tiny crypto deposits from a wallet Arkham Intelligence labeled as linked to HTX, according to Bloomberg. Kraken characterized the activity as a "dust attack," suggesting it may have been aimed at dispersing sanctioned funds and triggering compliance reviews at other platforms.
Between Aug. 17 and 24, the wallet sent close to 12,000 small transfers to Kraken-linked addresses, with most transactions worth only a few cents or a few dollars. Kraken has restored access for affected users and continues to hold the sanctioned funds.
HTX denied initiating the transfers and said it is investigating whether the wallet was misattributed or whether the activity involved malicious third-party actions.
