Hong Kong to Table Updated Virtual Asset Regulatory Amendments by End-2026
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Hong Kong plans to expand its virtual asset regulatory framework via a draft amendment by end-2026, introducing licensing for trading, custody, advisory, and asset management. The initiative signals continued institutionalization of crypto oversight and could improve market infrastructure clarity, especially following initial stablecoin issuer licenses. Near-term, it may affect expectations for compliance costs, venue competitiveness, and regulated product rollout rather than spot demand.

Hong Kong's government says it remains on track to submit amendments to the city's virtual asset regulatory framework by the end of 2026, according to Cointelegraph. The proposal would introduce a licensing regime covering four categories of services: virtual asset trading, custody, advisory, and management.
At a policy briefing on Oct. 5, Financial Services and the Treasury Secretary Christopher Hui said the administration plans to put forward the relevant amendment draft this year, aiming to keep pace with fintech innovation and further tighten oversight of virtual assets.
Earlier this year, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority granted its first stablecoin issuer licenses in April to Anchorpoint Financial and HSBC Hong Kong. The forthcoming licensing regime is expected to broaden the scope of Hong Kong's virtual asset regulation.
