Bybit wins Austrian e-money licence, expanding EU payments push

Bybit's Austrian unit has obtained an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from Austria's Financial Market Authority, adding regulated payments capabilities to the exchange's European operations. The approval allows Bybit to combine supervised payment services with the MiCAR crypto authorization it has held since May 2025.
Both permissions will be delivered via @BybitEU across the European Economic Area. Bybit said the Austrian licence provides a platform to develop person-to-person payments, open banking connectivity, merchant services and card products, with rollout timelines yet to be announced.
Managing director Georg Harer said the dual-track regulatory setup positions the firm to link crypto, payments and everyday financial services for customers in Europe.
