Alibaba Wraps Up HK$80 Billion Share Placement to Fund Global AI and Cloud Buildout

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Alibaba completed an HK$80bn share placement to fund its global AI strategy, emphasizing expanded computing capacity and hyperscale AI data centers alongside cloud infrastructure upgrades. The deal strengthens long-term AI and cloud competitiveness but increases near-term share count, which can affect valuation and trading dynamics. The explicit allocation toward agentic cloud architecture may be read as a strategic acceleration of capex intensity.

Alibaba Group said it has completed an HK$80 billion share placement, issuing 710 million new ordinary shares to non-U.S. persons outside the United States at HK$112.7 per share. The company plans to deploy all net proceeds to bolster its global AI strategy. About 60%—HK$47.871 billion—is earmarked for expanding global computing infrastructure to meet rising customer demand. The remaining roughly 40%—HK$31.914 billion—will be used to speed up the buildout of hyperscale AI data centers. Alibaba also said the funding will support upgrades to legacy cloud infrastructure, including storage, databases and high-performance networks, as it advances a full shift toward an Agentic Cloud architecture. The shares have not been registered under the U.S. Securities Act of 1933 and were offered and sold outside the United States under Regulation S.
