U.S. existing-home sales slip 1.7% in July as prices hit records and mortgage rates climb
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
U.S. existing-home sales fell 1.7% in July as record prices and a 6.69% 30-year mortgage rate constrain affordability, reinforcing the housing-sector slump. Soft housing turnover and low inventory underscore restrictive financial conditions and sensitivity to higher long-end yields, especially amid inflation concerns tied to higher oil prices. The release modestly supports a defensive macro tone, with spillovers to rates-sensitive assets.

U.S. existing-home sales fell 1.7% in July from June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.06 million, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday. The pace came in slightly above economists’ expectations of 4.05 million, according to FactSet. Sales were up 0.7% from a year earlier, while the median price rose 2% to $434,100. Freddie Mac reported the 30-year fixed mortgage rate rose to 6.69% last week, adding to affordability pressures for would-be buyers.
