RBA governor Bullock warns 75 bp of 2026 hikes may not curb inflation as Westpac lifts 5-year fixed rate to 7.14%
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
RBA Governor Bullock signaled that the 75bp of tightening this year may be insufficient as upside inflation risks "materialise", highlighting renewed oil-driven price pressures. Westpac's outsized fixed-rate increases reinforce tighter financial conditions ahead of the next policy decision, raising the probability of further RBA hikes. The mix is broadly risk-off for Australian rate-sensitive assets and supports AUD via higher expected yield differentials.

Reserve Bank of Australia governor Michele Bullock warned that the 75 basis points of rate increases delivered so far this year may not be sufficient to bring inflation under control, and said another sharp rise in oil prices would feed directly into prices. Against that backdrop, Westpac lifted owner-occupier fixed home loan rates by as much as 0.45 percentage points. The bank’s five-year fixed rate rose to 7.14%, nearly double a typical rate hike.
