OCC Proposes GENIUS Act Framework for Bank-Issued Payment Stablecoins

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency published a proposed framework under the GENIUS Act for national banks to issue regulated payment stablecoins, the agency said. The proposal integrates stablecoins into the traditional banking system by imposing strict reserve requirements and regulatory standards. The draft rule also targets faster business-to-business payments and broader mainstream use of bank-issued stablecoins within existing financial infrastructure.
