Indian stocks open higher as rupee reaches a two-month high on $136 billion swap, $127 billion FCNR(B) inflows
Indian market sentiment improved as U.S. bond yields eased slightly and the rupee strengthened to a two-month high against the dollar. A concessional swap facility mobilised $136 billion, while the FCNR(B) scheme drew $127 billion, both above expectations, supporting rupee stability and foreign investor confidence. Banks’ large FCNR(B) mobilisation is expected to lift net interest margins, underpinning banking stocks, while foreign institutional investors are seen continuing to buy Indian equities.

Sensex slides 700 points and Nifty drops on rising US-Iran tensions as oil nears $100
Indian equities sold off as US-Iran tensions intensified, pushing the Sensex down 700 points and dragging the Nifty lower, with most sector indices falling more than 1%. Brent crude climbed to $91-94 a barrel for its sharpest rise in over a year after the US and Iran returned to direct military exchanges and hopes of reopening the Strait of Hormuz collapsed. Analysts said the impact on Indian stocks may stay limited if oil does not break above $95, but warned that every $10 rise in average oil prices typically widens India’s current account deficit by 30 to 40 basis points of GDP and adds to inflation.
