What Is Purr (PURR) and How Does It Work?

Purr (PURR) is a cat-themed meme token and the first native spot asset launched on the Hyperliquid Layer 1. It was introduced as the first live demonstration of Hyperliquid's HIP-1 token standard and HIP-2 liquidity system. PURR trades through an on-chain PURR/USDC order book on HyperCore, Hyperliquid's trading execution layer.

HIP-1 gives PURR a capped supply and native balance system, while HIP-2 provides automated liquidity for its spot market. This design lets users trade PURR through an order book without relying on a conventional external liquidity pool. PURR's historical role is closely tied to the rollout of native spot trading on Hyperliquid.

PURR has no announced governance, staking, gas, or revenue-sharing function. Its value is driven mainly by community demand, its status as Hyperliquid's first spot token, available liquidity, and sentiment toward the wider Hyperliquid ecosystem. Trading activity also affects supply because PURR fees allocated to the burn mechanism are permanently removed.

When Did Purr Launch?

Purr went live on April 16, 2024, following the first phase of Hyperliquid's HIP-1 rollout. The launch used a no-sale distribution model. Half of the original maximum supply was distributed to eligible Hyperliquid points holders based on an earlier activity snapshot.

PURR served as an early production test for native token issuance, Hyperliquidity, and on-chain spot order books. It later gained a linked HyperEVM contract representation, allowing the asset to move between HyperCore and the EVM-compatible side of the Hyperliquid network.

Who Created PURR?

PURR was introduced by the Hyperliquid team as the network's first native spot launch. No named individual founder or separate PURR development company has been publicly established for the token.

The supplied Hyperintern account may be associated with Hyperliquid community culture, yet it does not provide sufficient evidence to identify a separate token creator. PURR should therefore be understood as a Hyperliquid ecosystem launch instead of an independently documented protocol with its own public team.

Purr Roadmap

PURR has no published product roadmap and no planned protocol utility. Its future development is best evaluated through observable ecosystem milestones:

  • Native spot-market continuity: Monitor the PURR/USDC order book, available depth, and continued support within HyperCore.

  • Ongoing supply reduction: Track fee-funded burns and total supply through Hyperliquid's token data instead of relying on a fixed historical figure.

  • HyperEVM interoperability: Watch the linked ERC-20 representation and the reliability of transfers between HyperCore and HyperEVM.

  • Community development: Follow whether builders and users create new integrations, tools, or cultural use cases around PURR without assuming that unofficial projects are endorsed by Hyperliquid.

What Is the PURR Token Utility?

PURR was launched with no sale and no planned utility. It does not currently provide verified governance rights, staking yield, protocol fee claims, or gas functionality. Its practical uses are narrower:

  1. Native spot trading: PURR is the base asset in the canonical PURR/USDC spot market on HyperCore.

  2. Ecosystem participation: The token acts as a community and cultural asset linked to Hyperliquid's early users and the launch of HIP-1 spot markets.

  3. Deflationary market mechanism: PURR trading fees assigned to the protocol burn path reduce total supply over time. This mechanism depends on actual trading activity.

BingX currently supports a verified PURR-USDT perpetual futures market. Eligible users can open the PURR-USDT perpetual page, review the live contract specifications, and choose a Market or Limit order. A perpetual contract provides price exposure and does not deliver native PURR tokens. Leverage can amplify both profits and losses, so traders should use position limits, liquidation controls, and stop-loss rules. BingX spot availability should be checked in the live market interface because the previously listed PURR-USDT spot record is inactive.

What Is Purr Tokenomics?

PURR launched with a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens and no public token sale. The original distribution assigned 500 million PURR to Hyperliquid points holders. Of the 500 million tokens initially associated with HIP-2 Hyperliquidity, approximately 400 million were burned and approximately 100 million remained for native liquidity.

Hyperliquid's live token data showed a total supply near 595 million PURR at the time of research, with future emissions listed as zero. The difference between the post-launch supply near 600 million and the later total reflects ongoing burns. Total supply can continue to decline when PURR-denominated trading fees are burned.

The supply model removes conventional scheduled inflation and disclosed VC unlock pressure. It does not remove market risk. Large-holder concentration, liquidity depth, changes in trading activity, and movement between HyperCore and HyperEVM can still affect price behavior.

PURR Token Allocation

  • 50%: Hyperliquid points holders: 500 million PURR were distributed proportionally to eligible early users through the launch airdrop.

  • 40%: Burned HIP-2 allocation: Approximately 400 million PURR from the initial Hyperliquidity allocation were permanently removed.

  • 10%: Hyperliquidity: Approximately 100 million PURR remained to support the native PURR/USDC order book.

  • Ongoing burns: Additional PURR is removed through the trading-fee burn mechanism, so the percentages above describe the original maximum supply and should not be treated as the current supply split.

Public launch information states that there was no token sale. No verified team, VC, or private-sale allocation has been disclosed. Traders should still review current holder concentration and on-chain balances because an airdrop-led launch does not guarantee decentralized ownership after secondary-market transfers.

What Blockchain Does Purr Operate On?

PURR is a native HIP-1 token on HyperCore, part of the Hyperliquid Layer 1. Its canonical HyperCore token ID is 0xc1fb593aeffbeb02f85e0308e9956a90, and its canonical spot pair is PURR/USDC. HIP-1 defines the capped supply, token balances, and spot-order-book behavior.

PURR also has a linked ERC-20 representation on HyperEVM at 0x9b498c3c8a0b8cd8ba1d9851d40d186f1872b44e. HyperEVM uses chain ID 999 and HYPE as its gas token. Users should distinguish the HyperCore token ID from the HyperEVM contract address and verify the destination network before every transfer.

Which Wallets Support PURR?

BingX users can access the verified PURR-USDT perpetual market through their BingX account, although this contract gives price exposure and does not store native PURR. A live BingX spot wallet route for PURR was not verified at the time of research.

For native PURR, users can connect an EVM-compatible wallet to Hyperliquid and hold the asset in their HyperCore spot balance. Rabby is a commonly compatible option, while MetaMask may also work with the correct network configuration. Hardware wallets such as Ledger, Trezor, or Keystone can add offline key protection when paired with a supported browser wallet.

For PURR on HyperEVM, users should add HyperEVM with chain ID 999, keep enough HYPE for gas, and verify the ERC-20 contract address before receiving or sending tokens. A token displayed under the same ticker on another network may represent a different asset.

Is Purr (PURR) a Good Investment?

Purr may appeal to traders who want exposure to Hyperliquid's community culture and believe the network's spot ecosystem will keep expanding. Its main differentiators are its position as the first HIP-1 spot token, a no-sale launch, broad early-user distribution, native order-book liquidity, zero listed future emissions, and an ongoing burn mechanism.

PURR remains a meme token with no planned protocol utility. Its price depends heavily on community attention, Hyperliquid ecosystem sentiment, liquidity, and speculative demand. Additional risks include holder concentration, smart-contract and bridge-related risks on HyperEVM, order-book volatility, regulatory uncertainty, and confusion with the Nasdaq-listed company that also uses the PURR ticker.

Traders should monitor HyperCore supply data, burn activity, PURR/USDC liquidity, top-holder concentration, transfer reliability, and official Hyperliquid announcements. PURR can behave as a high-beta ecosystem asset, so position sizing and risk controls matter more than the token's historical status alone.
