The State Bank of Pakistan has capped bank charges on card-present payments at fuel stations, setting the Merchant Discount Rate at Rs1.00 per litre and the Interchange Reimbursement Fee at Rs0.20 per litre through January 31, 2027. The measures take effect immediately and apply to all payment cards issued in Pakistan. Industry charges have been about 0.8% per transaction, or roughly Rs2.40 per litre, according to petroleum dealers.

Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) adjusted liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for August, setting the consumer rate at Rs254,315.35 per tonne and lifting the producer price of an 11.8kg cylinder by Rs152.01 to Rs2,513.58. The retail price of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder was raised to Rs3,000.92 from Rs2,848.91, an increase of Rs12.89 per kilogram. Separately, OGRA notified higher July 2026 RLNG transmission and distribution tariffs for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL), with increases of more than 32%.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) said its board has approved submitting a binding offer to acquire a majority stake in a target company. The company said the transaction remains subject to negotiations, due diligence, definitive documentation, and all required corporate, regulatory and statutory approvals. PTCL added that the consideration and other commercial terms are still being finalised and that no definitive agreement has been signed. It previously completed a Rs108 billion ($400 million) acquisition of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers on December 31, 2025, following Competition Commission of Pakistan approval in October 2025.
