Uber has launched what it says is the UK’s first driverless taxi service in London, using technology from autonomous vehicle developer Wayve and initially deploying 15 Mustang vehicles. The service, branded “AV 2.0,” uses AI to make driving decisions without relying on pre-programmed instructions. Only 15 of roughly 100,000 Ubers operating in London are part of the rollout, and riders are matched at random, marking a step toward commercialising autonomous taxis.

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng said it is taking back control of its UK sales operations and will set up its own national sales company, after International Motors previously handled retail. The company said it has delivered 1,800 G6 vehicles to UK customers. Xpeng is preparing to launch the new L03 crossover in the UK, with an expected entry price below £40,000.
